Mirroring the magnificence of the royal state of Rajas and Maharajas, Amber Fort stands high soaked in pale yellow and pink hue. Built in 1592 by Raja Man Singh on the rocky hill of Cheel ka Teela, the palace is situated in Amber, 11 kilometres from Jaipur. The fort beautifully depicts both Hindu and Muslim architecture, which make it a treat for the eyes.
Amber Fort, the great exemplar of India’s rich history, was built by Raja Man Singh. Later, Raja Jai Sigh I took the charger of expanding and renovating this masterpiece. While many historical edifices couldn’t stand the series of warfare, Amber Fort gracefully stood against all the tests of time and invasions.
The fort has been divided into four parts each having its own entrance. 'Suraj Pol' or Sun Gate is the main entry point that lets you enter this grand fort that seems larger than life. Walk through the gate and enter in the majestic 'Jaleb Chowk' where army troops were welcomed after the war. Beyond this chowk rests numerous gardens, palaces and temples which look jaw dropping. Shila Mata is the most popular temple here dedicated to Goddess Kali. Then there is the splendid Diwan-i-Am hall where kings used to organise their grand Darbars.
The next entrance leads you to the Ganesh Pol. This entrance was the place where queens used to welcome the battle - won kings.
Sheesh Mahal, a grand palace beautified with thousands of mirror tiles, is a sheer beguiler. The most adorable wonder of Amber Fort is the Jai Mandir, a double floored white marble temple overlooking the third courtyard garden, the Aram Bagh. Hall of Private Audience or Jas Mahal is another majestic palace adorned with floral glass inlay designs and marble lattices. To relish bird’s eye views of the Pink City, the Char Bagh garden is an ideal place.
After exploring the various facades of the fort, do not miss a chance to savour some delectable dishes at the Surabhi restaurant. The restaurant also organises local music and dance performances during evening hours which are worth enjoying.
Travellers can land at the Jaipur International Airport and take taxi or car ride to reach Amber Fort. The local buses start from Ajmeri Gate and MI Road that reach the fort in around twenty minutes.
