The city of Allahabad is also renowned for being home to the well known colleges and research institutions. Known as the “Oxford of the East”, the city has given birth to some notable personalities such as Harivansh Rai Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan and Subhadra Kumari.
The month of January brings streams of travellers to the city due to the famous Kumbh Mela celebrated here. Over 60 million participate in this grand fair where devotees gather to take a solemn dip in the holy rivers.
