One of the most imposing structures presented to us by history, Mehrangarh Fort stands with great pride in the state of Rajasthan. Situated at a height of 400 feet above the Jodhpur city, the fort has been named after the Sun deity.
Rao Jodha laid the Mehrangarh Fort on May 12, 1459. Though the royal Marwar later shifted from this place, the fort stood there intact, mirroring the Rathore glory. The fort presents a beautiful melange of varied styles and influences. Its 125 feet high battlements are of hard stone. The walls of the fort still echo the stories of the past and reveal some of the most astonishing facts of history. The Mehrangarh Fort is home to some majestic palaces, including the Moti Mahal or the Pearl Palace featuring the imperial throne of Jodhpur known as the Sringar Chowki, the Phool Mahal, the Rang Mahal and the Chandan Mahal. Other mansions of the fort display Rajput miniature paintings, musical instruments and royal attires which fascinate every human soul.
Today, this grand edifice acts as the venue for the popular Rajasthan International Folk Festival and World Sufi Spirit Festival, which are visited by thousands of travellers from all over the world.
