Vaishno Devi is perhaps one of the most sacred pilgrim sites among Hindu devotees. Dedicated to Mother goddess Vaishnodevi, this temple is located close to the town of Katra, in the Reasi district. Devotees climb an altitude of 5300 feet to reach this divine destination which is believed to be blessed with the powers of almighty. The temple, which is visited by over 8 million yatris every year, is maintained by the Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board.
The Hindus believe that during the evening aarti, Goddesses herself come at the holy cave to bless her devotees. Situated on the foothills of trikuta mountain range, this beautiful looking temple oozes serenity and spirituality in the air. The 13 km trek to reach the temple is absolutely scenic and makes travellers forget all their tiredness. It takes almost 6 to 9 hours to reach the main temple, which looks like a shining star from distance. The experience of reaching this holy place and entering into the blessed cave is unearthly.
