Often referred as the ‘City of Lakes’, Udaipur is a beautiful city of Rajasthan spellbinding people with its irresistible charm. Historic forts and palaces abound in Udaipur which are stunning architectural marvels. City Palace is one of the largest palaces in Rajasthan built on the banks of Lake Pichola. The granite and white marble edifice comprises palaces, courtyards, pavilions, corridors, terraces, hanging gardens and a museum displaying royal artefacts.

Built in the 18th Century, Lake Palace is located on Jag Niwas Island amidst the Lake Pichola and is now a heritage hotel. Its sheer beauty enthralls tourists where semi-precious stones grace the palace’s black and white marbles walls. The courtyards of this heritage structure are embellished with gardens, fountains, pillared terraces and columns.

Jag Mandir also known as the ‘Lake Garden Palace’ once served as a summer resort to the royal family. Situated on an island on the Lake Pichola, the palace has marble statues and spacious courtyards. One must catch the spectacular views of its surroundings during sunset.

The presence of many natural and man-made lakes brings uniqueness to Udaipur. One of the most sought-after tourist attractions here is Lake Pichola, which overwhelms the senses with its gorgeous beauty. It is surrounded by palaces, temples, bathing ghats, gardens and hills. The lake is celebrated for its boat rides during sunset offering breathtaking views of the surroundings.

Fateh Sagar Lake is another picturesque lake notable for its small islands - Nehru Island, a popular picnic spot, and the other one housing popular Udaipur Solar Observatory. The lake is surrounded by Aravalli mountains and provides scenic views of the environs. Other illustrious lakes in Udaipur are Udai Sagar Lake, Doodh Talai Lake and Jaisamand Lake.

Saheliyon ki Bari or ‘Courtyard of the Maidens’ was built by Rana Sangram Singh. The place is full of lush greenery housing a small museum, fountains, kiosks, a lotus pool, marble artefacts and pavilions. Built by Amar Chand Badwa - the then Prime Minister of Mewar - in the 18th century, Bagore ki Haveli boasts of its more than 100 rooms featuring modern art, traditional costumes, a huge collection of Mewar paintings and glassworks.

Apart from these attractions, Udaipur’s various colourful fairs and festivals like Mewar festival, Shilpgram fair make it a desirable place for tourists.
