Various tourist attractions in Ranikhet will refresh anyone’s senses. At 10 km from Ranikhet, Chaubatia Gardens is famous for the orchards of apples, plums, peaches and apricots. Offering enchanting views of Nanda Devi, Nilkanth, Nandaghunti and Trishul peaks; the garden is a nature lover’s delight. Tourists can also visit the state-run fruit research centre here. Near it is Bhalu Dam, an artificial lake surrounded by pleasant forests, popular for camping trip and picnic. If you love trekking then the place will fulfill your wish. From Chaubatia Gardens, you need to trek 3 km to reach the lake. One can also do fishing in the lake. However, it requires permission from chief wildlife warden.
Considered among the highest golf courses in India, Upat Kalika Golf Course is situated at about 6 km from Ranikhet. Though it is an Army golf course, civilians’ entry into its ground is allowed for which they need to pay a nominal fee. Maintained by the Kumaon Regiment, the place remains open throughout the year.
Dedicated to Goddess Kali, Lord Shiva and Radha-Krishna, Mankameshwar temple is located near Nar Singh Ground. The soldiers of the Kumaon Regiment reconstructed this ancient temple in 1978. The ethereal beauty surrounding the shrine is worth experiencing. A woolen garment factory and gurudwara near the temple are also visited by tourists.
Tarikhet is famous for housing the cottage of Mahatma Gandhi, a major tourist attraction. Tourists can also visit the temple of a local deity, Golu.
Dedicated to Goddess Durga, Jhoola Devi is an ancient temple built in the 8th Century. 7 kms away from Ranikhet, the temple is adorned with several bells offered by devotees. Close to it is another temple which has Lord Rama as its prime deity.
Tourists can also take up trekking expeditions in Ranikhet. There are some popular trekking trails like - Chaubatia Orchards to Holm Farm, Chaubatia to Bhalu Dam, Ranikhet Club to Chevron Rosemount and Meghdoot to Jhoola Devi temple.
