Varkala Beach is the most popular attraction of the Varkala town. This beach remains drenched in solitude, which makes it perfect to loosen up. Where the southern area of the beach is known for the Janardhana Swamy Temple, the northern area has earned popularity due to its natural mineral spring. Thiruvambadi Beach is another serene retreat known for its black sand. Nestled with lush coconut groves, the beach’s shoreline is perfect for leisurely strolls.
Serenity seekers can also visit the Sivagiri Mutt, a popular ashram of Shri Narayana Guru. Constructed around 1904, the ashram is mostly visited by devotees during 30 December to 1 January, when a grand annual festival is celebrated here. Many debates, vibrant processions, seminars, public meetings and cultural shows are organised here.
Apart from these, the Janardhanaswamy Temple also holds great importance among the locals here. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, and known for the celebration of Arattu festival, the temple dates back to 2000 years.
