The Beautiful Ancient Temple Town of Odisha

The splendid views of Chilika Lake are feast for the eyes. In this Asia’s largest brackish water lagoon, find some beautiful islands like Honeymoon, Somolo and Nalabana making you spellbound. A charming boat ride on the lake will be out of this world. Spread over an area of 1,100 sq km, Chilika Wildlife Sanctuary serves as a safe haven to wide variety of fauna and avifauna species. Spot over 160 different and rare species of birds here from November to February. A delight for nature lovers, the sanctuary proves to be a great place for photography enthusiasts.

Believed to be built during the 13th Century, Markandeshwara Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. A majestic 10-armed statue of Nataraja adorns the entrance of the temple, which is notable for its classic architecture.

The history of holy Narendra Tank, the largest tank in Odisha with 16 ghats, dates back to the 15th Century. The tank is surrounded by many small and big temples. The annual Chandana Yatra of Lord Jagannath is celebrated here with full fervour.

By Air: At about 60 km, Bhubaneswar Airport, also known as Biju Patnaik International Airport, is the nearest airport to Puri.

By Rail: From Puri Railway Station, regular trains connect the city to other metropolises of India.

By Road: One can easily get buses to Puri, which ply on a regular basis.
