Hyderabad
The Elegant Mix of Old & New

The city of Hyderabad has a rustic old world. This is the city where you experience a totally different facade of India that takes you through narrow lanes nestling with bazaars, small tea shops, animals sharing the road with people, auto rickshaws ringing bells to make their way, a bustle of noise, people in flamboyant clothes and old architecture peeping from every possible corner. But this is just one side of Hyderabad. The other side of the city hypnotizes the mankind with sky-piercing malls, grand multiplexes and pulsating nightlife which have together earned it the title of Hi-Tech City. This combination is rare yet fascinating, simple yet baffling.

This capital of southern India's Telangana state houses numerous places that let you explore the unexplored. Visit the legendary Mecca Masjid which was completed in 1694 by Emperor Aurangzeb after the Mughals took over the city. The astonishing part is that the soil used for the construction of this mosque was brought from Mecca (the holiest place in Islam). The architecture of the mosque is unmatched with holy Quran scripted on its arches.

The Salarjung Museum of the city is also visited by many due to its amazing collection of objects d’art from all over the planet. Accumulated by three generations of the Nizam’s prime ministers, the museum exhibits oil paintings by western and Indian artists, marble carvings, carpets, clocks, china and porcelain, Chola sculptures, and other religious objects.

To spend some moments of peace one can head for the Hussain Sagar Lake, a large man-made lake. The Lumbini Huda Park is another great place to escape the exhausting city life and spend some moments in a spiffy little place.

Golkonda Fort is a must visit attraction during your holidays to Hyderabad. The fort is counted among the archaeological treasures on the official ‘List of Monuments’. Also, no trip to Hyderabad can ever end without eyeing the grand Charminar constructed in 1591 CE. This majestic structure, made of Granite, limestone, mortar and marble, has become an important landmark in the city today where locals and travellers flock all day long to spend some great time with friends and family.

Hyderabad is a blessing for those who love tasting authentic Indian spices. From lip-smacking biryani to delectable kebabs to sweet dishes, the splendid Hyderabadi cuisine covers it all.
